Frequently Asked Questions
Psychotherapy focuses on thoughts, emotions, and behavioral patterns through conversation. Somatic trauma therapy goes deeper by also addressing how trauma and stress are stored in the body and nervous system. At our practice, both approaches are integrated into sessions when clinically appropriate.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and re-store distressing or traumatic memories. Through guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR reduces the emotional intensity of traumatic memories so they no longer feel overwhelming in the present.
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, medication-free brain training technique. Sensors are placed on the scalp to measure brainwave activity and provide real-time feedback that helps the brain learn to regulate itself more effectively. It is safe, painless, and has been used clinically for decades to support mood, focus, sleep, and emotional regulation.
TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment for depression that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. It is typically recommended for individuals with treatment-resistant depression who have not responded adequately to medication or cannot tolerate medication side effects. It does not require anesthesia or sedation.
Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal medication for treatment-resistant depression. It is administered in-office under medical supervision, and patients are monitored following administration to ensure safety. It is typically recommended for individuals who have not responded to multiple antidepressant medications or who struggle with persistent suicidal thoughts.
